Wind storm causes power outages across Eastern Kentucky
A large storm packing extremely high winds crossed Kentucky Power’s Eastern Kentucky service area Friday morning causing more than 10,250 customers to lose power. The storm caused damage ranging from downed power lines to broken utility poles to downed trees and tree limbs across power lines.

With energy costs on the rise, Kentucky Power, an American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) operating unit, has introduced new, web-based home energy calculators to help customers determine how to save money on their electricity bills. The calculators determine the costs of heating and cooling a home and of operating common appliances, electronic devices and lighting, enabling customers to make informed choices to help reduce the amount of electricity they use in their homes.

Kentucky Power warns of safety hazards from placing campaign material on utility poles
As elections approach, Kentucky Power reminds Eastern Kentucky residents and political campaigners that posters mounted on utility poles are dangerous for electric company employees. The nails, staples and tacks that are used to hold posters and signs to utility poles can interfere with the work of line mechanics.

Kentucky Public Service Commission approves Kentucky Power rate case settlement agreement
The Kentucky Public Service Commission issued an order March 14 approving Kentucky Power’s $41 million rate case settlement agreement.  The agreement was reached with rate case intervenors last month and concludes a base rate case the company filed in Sept. 2005.

Transmission line work may briefly impact U.S. Rt. 23 traffic
Beginning Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, AEP line crews will be upgrading transmission power lines on a 1.5 mile stretch of its system between Bellefonte, Kentucky, and Ironton, Ohio. As a result, traffic along U.S. Route 23, particularly at the junction of U.S. 23 and Diederich Boulevard at Russell, Kentucky, may be interrupted intermittently between Dec. 6 and Friday, Dec. 16

KENTUCKY POWER SAYS NO POWER OUTAGE IS PLANNED FOR NOV. 5 IN LESLIE COUNTY


A recent memorandum issued by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to circuit court clerks in Kentucky has led to the public perception of an extended electricity power outage in Leslie County, Saturday, Nov. 5.  Kentucky Power officials today said that no such power outage is planned.

Kentucky Power to install automated meters in Pikeville Area
Kentucky Power customers in and near Pikeville will soon have new electric meters installed as part of the company’s efforts to introduce new automated meter reading technology. Approximately 15,000 customers will see their present meters replaced with new ones that are capable of being read remotely by use of either handheld or mobile reading devices.  In most cases, meter readers will no longer have to enter customers’ property to gather meter data.

Kentucky Power seeks first rate increase in more than 20 years
Kentucky Power Company, a subsidiary of American Electric Power, today filed a base rate case with the Kentucky Public Service Commission (KPSC) to recover increasing costs associated with providing safe and reliable electric service to customers. The filing calls for an increase in revenue of $64.8 million over existing rates and asks for a general rate increase for Kentucky Power customers. It is the first base rate increase the company has requested in more than 20 years.
