Dayton-Area Residential Customers Now Have Choice For Electricity Supply

May 16, 2011

AEP Retail Energy offers the first competitive electricity offer for Dayton-area residential customers

COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 4, 2011 – Dayton-area residents now have a choice about which company generates and supplies the electricity for their homes. AEP Retail Energy, a subsidiary of American Electric Power, is the first certified retail electricity provider to offer competitive, market-based prices for the generation and transmission of electricity to residential customers in the Dayton area.

“We are proud to be the first electricity provider to offer market-based, competitive prices for electricity to residential customers in this area,” said David Hesser, managing director of AEP Retail Energy. “Just like phone and natural gas service, Dayton residents now have the opportunity to benefit from a competitive electricity market, particularly as we head into the summer when electricity use and costs are typically the highest.”

Dayton-area residents will be able to choose AEP Retail Energy to provide the generation and transmission portions of their current electricity service, which is the largest portion of the average electric bill. Dayton Power and Light will still deliver the electricity over local lines and handle any service issues, such as outages. AEP Retail Energy already provides generation and transmission services to many businesses in the Dayton area.

Dayton-area residential customers can choose a two-year, fixed-price plan of 7.69 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh) for generation and transmission from AEP Retail Energy. Residential customers in the area currently pay as much as 9.6 cents per kWh for generation and transmission services.

Dayton-area residents can sign up or find out more about AEP Retail Energy at AEPRetailEnergy.com or by calling 1-800-950-2725. Customers can see and evaluate electricity price offers by visiting the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio website at http://www.puco.ohio.gov/puco/index.cfm/apples-to-apples/electric-apples-to-apples-chart/.
