Dozens of PSO employees and retirees who performed volunteer work for community organizations across the state qualified during 2004 for special monetary grants to help local Boy Scout troops; feed the homeless efforts; museums across the state and social service agencies.
Grants provided under the AEP Connects Volunteer Grants effort totaled $5,100 in 2004. The awards were based on the volunteer hours provided by PSO employees and retirees.
Community organizations that received grants included the Oologah Mustang Quarterback Club, Humane Society of Tulsa, Cache High School Class of 2005, Therapy Dogs International, the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, Hobart Rotary Club, Grady County Crime Stoppers, Great Plains Tractor Club and the Kiowa County Museum.
“At PSO, we’re grateful for the commitment of so many of our employees and retirees to improve the communities where we work and live through volunteering in community organizations,” said Stuart Solomon, PSO president and chief operating officer.
“The grants program is a visible way that our company and our employees benefit from being part of a larger organization, American Electric Power,” he said.
PSO, a unit of American Electric Power, is an electric utility company serving more than 505,000 customers in eastern and southwestern Oklahoma. Based in Tulsa, PSO has more than 4,000 megawatts of generating capacity and offers some of the lowest energy prices in the United States.
