New, Voluntary Wind Power Option Now Available

TULSA, Okla., March 4, 2011 – Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO), a subsidiary of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP), today announced it is now offering WindChoice: a voluntary program through which customers can buy 100 percent Oklahoma wind power for their homes or businesses. Under the program, customers can purchase 100 kilowatt-hour (kWh) blocks at a fixed price of $1.72 per block, which is in addition to their standard energy charge.

WindChoice is available to PSO’s residential, commercial and industrial customers – including municipalities, governmental organizations, school districts and educational institutions.

“Harnessing Oklahoma’s abundant, infinitely renewable wind to generate electricity makes more sense than ever,” said Kathy Champion, PSO Energy Efficiency and Consumer Programs manager. “Wind energy conserves non-renewable natural resources for other uses, it helps to protect our natural environment and, when you purchase WindChoice, you are supporting Oklahoma’s fast-growing wind energy industry – which will play an important role in our nation’s energy future as we move toward greater energy independence, less dependence of fossil fuels, and less impact on the environment from energy production.”

 With WindChoice, customers may choose to buy just one 100 kWh block per month – or as many as they like, up to 100 percent of their average energy usage. At $1.72 per block, ten blocks of WindChoice – enough to power the average home – costs $17.20 per month, or about 60 cents per day.

 The electricity generated for PSO’s WindChoice program comes from the Minco Wind Farm, a 99-megawatt facility in western Oklahoma which began commercial operation in December, 2010.

Commercial and industrial customers can enroll using the same methods as residential customers, or by contacting their PSO account representative.
