I&M DONATES CFLs TO HABITAT FOR HUMANITY RESTORES IN TIME FOR EARTH DAY

April 21, 2011

During the week of Earth Day, Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) is partnering with Habitat for Humanity ReStores to offer discounted pricing on energy efficient lighting.

“I&M is very pleased to partner with Habitat ReStores once again by donating compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs to help consumers make the transition to more energy efficient lighting,” said Kim Reeder, I&M manager of energy efficiency and consumer programs.

“ReStores promote environmental stewardship and social responsibility by making reusable materials available to our customers. Energy efficiency is certainly in keeping with that mission, and the week of Earth Day is a great occasion for our customers to save energy and money at home while helping Habitat for Humanity build homes for local families in need.”

ReStore resale outlets sell donated goods which are sold to the general public at a fraction of the retail price. The proceeds help local Habitat affiliates fund the construction of Habitat homes within their communities.

CFLs use 75 percent less energy than comparable incandescent light bulbs. Most CFLs last up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs and can save up to $40 over the lifetime of the bulb.

In addition to the donation of bulbs to the ReStore outlets, I&M offers discounted CFLs through local retailers in Indiana as part of their SMART Programs, a suite of energy efficiency programs for homes and businesses.

SMART Programs include residential programs for recycling older refrigerators and freezers, weatherization assistance for low income households, home energy audits for all electric homes, programs for business customers, and an energy efficiency education program available free to local schools.

More information about I&M SMART Programs for Indiana customers is available at indianamichiganpower.com/save.
