MAZZONE NAMED VICE PRESIDENT OF AEP PRO SERV

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 20, 2000 – John A. Mazzone has been promoted to vice president - maintenance services for AEP Pro ServSM Inc., a subsidiary of American Electric Power (NYSE:AEP), according to John R. Jones, president of AEP Pro Serv.

Effective immediately, Mazzone will assume responsibility for AEP Pro Serv´s regional maintenance services organization, transportation services – including the company´s railcar operations -- and machine shop services. AEP Pro Serv provides internal and external clients with a full array of project management, engineering, construction, operations, technical services and maintenance expertise.

“John’s technical strengths will give this organization the tools it needs to become a viable competitor in the wholesale marketplace,” Jones said.

Mazzone most recently was general manager at AEP’s Picway Plant in Lockbourne, south of Columbus. A successor has not been announced.

Mazzone, 39, joined AEP in 1984 as a performance engineer at the Conesville Plant, south of Coshocton, where he also held positions as plant engineer of operations and production superintendent of operations. He joined the regional services organization in 1996 as operation services manager in charge of engineering and later served as production support manager for the northern region’s home-based crews. Prior to being named Picway Plant general manager last year, Mazzone served in the company´s fossil/hydro operations group as outage executions and budgets coordinator.

He received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1983 from West Virginia University in Morgantown.
