COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 25, 2007 – For the third time in six years, American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) has been selected as one of the “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers” by Working Mother magazine, a national publication targeting career-committed mothers.
AEP is the only central Ohio-based company and the only electric utility on the list, which appears in the magazine’s October edition.
“We’re thrilled to be recognized once again by this national publication,” said Michael G. Morris, AEP chairman, president and chief executive officer. “This honor confirms that AEP is helping employees balance their personal and work lives, which is a priority for us.”
“We continually evaluate our policies and programs, and compare them with those of other companies, with the goal of making them even stronger,” said Mary Cofer, director of diversity and culture for AEP.
The honored companies were chosen based on a 575-question survey addressing work- schedule flexibility, family-friendly policies, work leave for new parents, child care, company culture, advancement of women and compensation.
Honorees will be formally recognized during the annual 100 Best Companies Work/Life Congress in New York Oct. 1-3, sponsored by Working Mother Media (WMM). WMM publishes Working Mother magazine and sponsors the National Association for Female Executives (NAFE).
AEP received the same recognition in 2002 and 2004. In 2006 and earlier this year, Working Mother also selected AEP as one of the best companies for multicultural women. In addition, this past spring, NAFE named AEP one of the top 30 companies for women executives.
