Wind gusts 30-40 mph continue this morning through much of the Kentucky Power service territory. High winds are expected to impact eastern Kentucky through the early afternoon.
Summary
A cold front that pushed through Kentucky Power’s service area early this morning brought high winds and heavy rains, causing significant outages. At the peak of the windstorm, there were 16,400 customers without power. Currently, there are approximately 8,330 customers still without power with most customers affected in the following areas: Letcher County (2,216), Perry County (1,124), Pike County (3,500), Knott County (1,300).
Storm Response Efforts
Restoration efforts are well underway. Nearly 400 Kentucky Power personnel, business partners and external resources are responding with an additional 80 out-of-state resources joining the effort throughout the day to address the remaining 202 customer outage cases.
