Improving Reliability – Grid Improvement Projects

Primary distribution lines provide electricity to local areas. They are higher on the pole and typically located above the transformer. Our tree crews trim and remove trees around these lines and aim for at least 10 feet of clearance.

The service line, sometimes called the service drop, is the line that runs from our pole to your house. We do not maintain trees and brush around our service lines. If you plan to hire a private tree contractor to trim or remove trees near the service line, please call 800.572.1113 as soon as possible, and our Customer Solutions team will schedule a crew to disconnect the service line.

You may see other lines on our poles. These are usually communication lines for cable providers, internet providers or phone companies. We do not maintain trees and branches around communication lines.

Secondary distribution lines are on the same poles as primary distribution lines but are typically lower and below the transformer. Our tree crews may trim and/or remove trees from around secondary distribution lines if we believe they could pose a threat to your electric service.
