Current Situation
Thunderstorms across eastern Kentucky are actively causing power outages across Kentucky Power’s service area. Currently, there are about 19,400 customers without power.

A line of storms continues moving across eastern Kentucky bringing heavy rain and high winds through later tonight. Additional rainfall is expected through Friday morning which could create additional hazards and impact utilities as the saturated ground could enable trees to fall more easily.
Storm Response and ETRs
Nearly 700 Kentucky Power personnel and business partners are actively working to restore power to customers as quickly and safely as possible. Starting tomorrow, additional Mutual Assistance crews are expected to join in the efforts. Estimated Times of Restoration (ETRs) will be available once damage assessment is complete and more information is available.
As crews evaluate conditions and begin repairs, ETRs will be added to the Outage Map and will continue to update as new information becomes available. Please note that ETRs are subject to change due to additional work field crews may find necessary. All ETRs come from employees in the field, which means our customers get near real-time updates about restoration times.
Customers are encouraged to sign up for outage alerts through the Kentucky Power app to receive notifications about restoration times and updates as crews make progress.
Stay Safe
- Stay away from all downed power lines! Always assume a downed line is energized. Call 911 and Kentucky Power immediately at 1-800-572-1113 to report.
- Never drive through flooded roads. As little as 12 inches of rushing water can sweep away a car, and 6 inches can stall an engine or knock you off your feet.
- Be aware of the potential for trees and overhanging limbs to fall without warning. When heavy rain saturates the ground, trees can fall more easily, especially in strong winds.
