Kentucky Renewable Pricing

Many of our customers have asked us for a way they can help support renewable energy through their electricity use. Now customers may support the generation of renewable energy by voluntarily signing up to participate in the Renewable Power Option.

Kentucky Power customers have the opportunity to purchase blocks of renewable energy. Each block is equivalent to 100 kilowatt-hours of renewable electricity. With the Renewable Power Option, customers can encourage the generation of renewable energy through the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates, or RECs. RECs are created whenever a renewable energy generator makes power from renewable resources. By purchasing these Renewable Energy Certificates, you encourage and help sustain renewable power.

Residential customers may elect to purchase a minimum of one block at a cost of $2.00 per block. For example, if a customer purchases two blocks of green energy, that customer's bill would increase by $4.00 each month. Kentucky customers also may elect to purchase all of their power using renewable pricing.

Participating in the Renewable Power Option affords customers the opportunity to make a positive environmental impact in the region by helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, expand America's renewable energy resources and provide support for the creation of renewable jobs nationwide.
