Empowering Our Communities, One Repair at a Time

May 28, 2025

Economic and Business Development Manager, Amanda Clark (center), poses with a group of Kentucky Power volunteers after completing Repair Affair work.

Volunteers, local organizations and a shared commitment to giving back came together recently for Ashland’s 24th Annual Repair Affair — and Kentucky Power was proud to be a part of it.

Led by the City of Ashland’s Community and Economic Development department, Repair Affair is an annual event that brings vital home safety, security and weatherization repairs to elderly, low-income and disabled residents. From ramps and handrails to yard work and deck repairs, the goal is simple: make homes safer and lives easier.

This year, thanks to more than 150 volunteers and strong regional support, over 35 homes received much-needed improvements. In addition to providing volunteers, the Kentucky Power Foundation granted $10,000 to help cover the cost of supplies and materials.

“It feels fantastic,” said Kentucky Power Economic and Business Development Manager Amanda Clark in an Ashland Daily Independent newspaper story. “Just to be able to take whatever skills we have in order to help people who need it the most.”

Planning for the event began back in January, with homeowners applying for assistance and volunteers lining up to help. Once materials were purchased and projects assigned, the community came together, proving once again that when people care, great things happen.

“At Kentucky Power, we’re committed to strengthening the communities we serve.” Clark said. “We’re grateful to work alongside partners who share that same dedication.”
