Options for Customers Managing Electric Bills
ASHLAND, Ky. July 2, 2026 – The hot months of summer can cause electric bills to spike, but Kentucky Power has multiple ways to help customers who are struggling to pay their bills.
“We never want any customer to lose electric service, and we understand that financial hardships can happen to anyone. There are multiple ways we can help customers,” said Stevi Cobern, customer services manager.
Disconnecting service is always a last resort and customers receive disconnection notices by mail or email and reminder phone calls before service is ever disconnected.
Kentucky Power offers help in the following ways:
- For starters, Kentucky Power suspends disconnections during extremely hot or cold weather.
- There are options for flexible payment arrangements and/or payment extensions.
- There are budget billing programs such as the Average Monthly Payment (AMP) plan which levels monthly bills.
- Customer service can connect customers with community resources for payment assistance.
- Longer term, customer service can arrange for a home energy audit to reduce the amount of electricity customers are using in their homes. Kentucky Power offers the EnergyAdvantage at Home and Targeted Energy Efficiency programs that provide energy efficiency improvements to homes to lower usage and bills.
“Our customer service team will work with customers to review available options and help maintain service whenever possible. We encourage customers to reach out as early as they can so we can explore solutions together,” added Cobern.
