Kentucky Power Foundation Supports Next Generation of Kentucky STEM Talent
HAZARD, Ky., Aug. 28, 2026 – The Kentucky Power Foundation is investing in the future of Kentucky students with a $25,000 grant to the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky in support of its Craft Academy Scholarship Fund.
Established by Joe and Kelly Craft, the scholarship helps graduates of the Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics at Morehead State University continue their education after completing the rigorous residential program. Scholarship awards are based on eligibility requirements and may be renewed for up to four years of undergraduate study.
“Kentucky has incredibly talented and highly motivated high schoolers, and these students are proof of that,” said Cindy Wiseman, Kentucky Power president and chief operating officer. “This grant will help the scholarship fund reduce financial barriers for Craft Academy graduates as they pursue undergraduate degrees. We’re proud to help these students take what they have already accomplished and build on it as they pursue their goals.”
The Craft Academy Scholarship, administered by the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky, provides academically exceptional Kentucky high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to complete their final two years of high school while living on Morehead State University’s campus and taking college-level courses. The program emphasizes science, technology, engineering and mathematics along with innovation, creativity and civic and regional engagement. Students can leave the Academy with approximately 60 hours of college credit before beginning the next chapter of their education.
Erica Meadows, Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky’s chief operating officer, expressed appreciation for the support saying in an email to Kentucky Power, “We are excited to see the impact that this will have on students in Appalachian Kentucky for years to come.”
The Kentucky Power Foundation awards charitable grants within communities served by Kentucky Power, an operating subsidiary of American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP). The Kentucky Power Foundation, along with the rest of the American Electric Power Foundation, is funded by AEP and its operating subsidiaries solely through shareholder dollars.
