KENTUCKY POWER ANNOUNCES THE COLEMAN – STONE TRANSMISSION LINE REBUILD PROJECT
ASHLAND, Ky., October 5, 2026 - Kentucky Power representatives are upgrading the transmission system in Pike County, Kentucky. The project involves rebuilding approximately 10 miles of 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line in new right-of-way and removing approximately 10 miles of 69-kV transmission line.
• The upgrades replace aging equipment from the 1960s with modern steel infrastructure, improving system reliability, and reducing the likelihood of extended outages for customers in the area.
• Residents may visit KentuckyPower.com/Coleman-Stone to access a virtual open house and submit comments online.
• Landowners in the study area will receive mailed information packets that include additional details and opportunities to provide feedback by Friday, October 30.
“This project is part Kentucky Power’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the electric grid and improve service reliability for area customers,” said Sarah Lynch, Kentucky Power spokesperson. “By upgrading aging equipment, we are working to deliver safe, dependable service for our neighbors and reducing the potential of extended power outages.”
The project team expects to select a proposed route in late 2026. Company representatives plan to file an application with the Kentucky Public Service Commission in summer 2027. If the project receives approval, the company expects construction to begin as early as fall 2028 and conclude by fall 2029.
Kentucky Power regularly reviews its transmission infrastructure to identify areas where aging equipment may need to be replaced as part of responsible long-term system planning.
Kentucky Power, with headquarters in Ashland, provides service to about 162,000 customers in 20 eastern Kentucky counties and is an operating company in the American Electric Power system, one of the largest electric utilities in the United States.
