Employees Make an Impact Through Community Outreach

April 23, 2026

Volunteer efforts have been underway across the region, with team members taking time to support local schools and community organizations.

From reading to children in the classroom to participating in career fairs and helping pack food boxes for families in need, several recent outreach events created opportunities to connect with communities across the service area.

At South Floyd Elementary School, volunteers spent time reading with first and second grade students, sharing stories and encouraging the importance of reading.

Another group volunteered at Facing Hunger Food Bank. Volunteers worked alongside food bank staff to sort and package food items. The effort helps support the food bank’s ongoing work to supply meals and essential groceries to individuals and families facing food insecurity.

Volunteers also participated in career day events at May Valley Elementary School and May Valley Middle School in Floyd County, as well as Ashland Community and Technical College. During the events, they spoke with students about careers in the energy industry, shared insights about different roles in the field and answered questions about education and career paths.

"I love participating in these events. They let us connect with the community, raise awareness and help students explore job opportunities that fit their interests," said Paula Gwinn, key account manager. "The best part is watching their faces light up as they talk with our line crews."
